What We're All About

Newfoundland Power Inc. operates an integrated generation, transmission and distribution system throughout the island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador.

For over 130 years, we have provided customers with safe, reliable electricity in the most cost-efficient manner possible. We purchase approximately 93% of the electricity we sell from the Crown corporation, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. We generate the balance from our own smaller hydroelectric stations – located across the island.

Newfoundland Power is regulated by the Newfoundland and Labrador Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities which has jurisdiction over rates, policies, capital expenditures and the issue of securities.

Our employees are united by a set of core values: people, safety, service, respect, teamwork and innovation. These are the principles that form the foundation for which we perform our work and conduct ourselves. Our values guide us as we continue to provide our customers with the service they expect and deserve in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

All the common shares of Newfoundland Power are owned by Fortis Inc., the largest investor-owned distribution utility in Canada. For information about Fortis Inc. and the Fortis Group of Companies, please visit
