EnviroFest

A key focus of Newfoundland Power’s investment in our communities centres on minimizing our environmental footprint. We are committed to sustainability and enhancing green spaces in communities while creating awareness about the importance of preserving our environment for future generations. Our employee-driven Environmental Commitment Program (ECP) started in 1997 and since then we have partnered with more than 300 community groups, completed 120 environmental projects and inspired thousands of participants each year to take better care of our environment.

EnviroFest is the cornerstone of our ECP. This annual celebration of the environment provides funding and hands-on support for initiatives that encourage positive environmental action throughout our province. EnviroFest events are held annually, primarily during Environment Week.

In 2024, we are once again inviting community-minded groups and organizations to submit proposals for support of their efforts to develop or enhance environmentally-friendly projects. Projects need to focus on sustainability and demonstrate a positive impact on our environment that benefits the entire community. Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to, improving park areas, enhancing trail systems, starting a recycling program, adding or refurbishing green spaces, etc.

Proposals for EnviroFest 2024 must be submitted by 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2024. Successful proposals will be announced on Monday, April 22, 2024. A minimum of five grants of up to $6,000 each will be awarded.

Proposal Criteria:

1. Proposals should include the following:

   a. a detailed description and total estimated cost of the project; 
   b. other partners providing additional project funding;
   c. how the EnviroFest grant will be used;
   d. opportunities for our employees to provide support;
   e. overall benefit to the community; and,
   f. any additional information that will support your proposal.

2. Projects need to focus on sustainability and demonstrate a positive impact on our environment.

3. The project must be located in Newfoundland Power’s operating area.

4. Projects which can be undertaken during Environment Week, June 2 - 8, 2024, are encouraged.
